J'ai eu la chance de faire 3 des visites proposées par Graeme : Surabaya, balade dans l'est de l'île de Java et le volcan bromo. Graeme est un puit de culture et sait s'adapter à son public, ce fût passionnant. Je recommande !

We were two families travelling together with young teenaged kids and only one day to spare. Graeme customised an absolutely awesome day to suit our budgetary and time constraints, and it was packed with a myriad of activities that suited each one of us. We visited Tanjung Perak harbour and watched several old teak schooners being loaded, we visited the old De Javasche Bank and learned all about it's chequered history, we wandered through parts of the city that I'm sure rarely see foreigners, and took in the sights, scents, and sounds of the traditional market. We stopped at the Red Bridge and learned about the events leading to the death of Brigadier Mallaby. We visited a 19th century Buddhist temple where we were treated to a fabulous puppetry display, then took a short tour through the Arab Quarter and its traditional souk. From there we boarded a ferry to visit nearby Madura Island and enjoyed a delicious Madurese luncheon (in air conditioned comfort, which we really appreciated in the heat of the day!). After lunch, we visited 100+ year old lighthouse and marvelled at its construction, before continuing on to visit the amazing sandstone quarry and caves where the rich, red earth contrasts with the lush surrounding greenery to make for perfect photo opportunities. Graeme has an incredible wealth of information about Java and all the places we visited, and he was very happy to share his knowledge and answer our many questions throughout the course of our day. He was equally happy to engage the children, too, which I really appreciated as it ensured their interest and attention was kept throughout the tour. While we packed a lot into our, we never felt rushed or hurried along. All day we travelled in a very comfortable, fully air conditioned mini-van which Graeme had stocked with plenty of drinking water and a variety of snacks, and we all truly had a fabulous day. My husband are I are keen to head back to Surabaya to do one of Graeme's interesting sounding furniture tours, as well as a foodie tour! I HIGHLY recommend Authentic Java Tours!

Graeme is a fountain of knowledge on all things Java. He custom designed a marvellous day tour for us covering Surabaya and Madura. Sourced a very comfortable a/c minibus for our group of 7. Plenty of snacks and water were provided as was a nice Madurese lunch. The day was wonderful with such a variety of things to see from wooden ships to Arab quarters to beautiful Dutch buildings to puppetry at a Chinese temple to fascinating scenery at a limestone quarry (caves) on Madura. All of these sights were further enhanced by Graeme's information and interesting stories. Would highly recommend Graeme and would love to do more tours with him.

I had the opportunity to go on theTemple/Cottage Industries tour with Graeme. I had a fabulous time and can only recommend any tour Graeme offers. The tour choice was exactly what I wanted to see and the history information Graeme could give was a perfect insight into the modern life and the past of the cottage Industries and the temples. Graeme had organised food and drinks so I didn’t miss a thing. All the Indonesian people were just lovely and very kind and allowed us to observe their work. Thank you Graeme for a wonderful day, which I will never forget.

Surabaya is a fascinating old city, and it is brought to technicolor life by Graeme. This man knows his history, and when you have the good fortune to explore Surabaya with him, you feel as if he is helping you discover your own version of this captivating place. Why was it so interesting to see the behind the scenes workings of a huge old clock? I don't know, exactly, but when that was followed by exploring the contents of dusty shelves of an old bank, I felt as if I had been where history happened. Do wear good walking shoes, and take a fan for the hottest moments. Graeme will suggest a quenching beverage or a cob of sweet steamed corn at just the moments when you need them. I hope this is just the first of many days with Graeme. I look forward to seeing Madura through his eyes, and other parts of Java as well. His knowledge seems bottomless, and his company is delightful. Don't miss an opportunity to explore with him.
